This autumn ILC welcomed Johanna Fagerström, a representative of Swedish Farms Association in ILC office in Kyiv. Every year Johanna runs interviews with young specialists for agriculture internship program in Sweden.
Johanna shares with us her experience of working with ILC and Ukrainian students.
“I started to work in the company 4 years ago, and my company had already been cooperated with ILC. So, I think they have been working together for at least 10 years.
The interest from Ukrainian young people has been quite high. The internship programs in Sweden exist for over 50 years.
When the students are doing a good job, we make prolongation for them, so they can stay as long as possible in Sweden as a trainee. We only work with trainee programs that can last up to 18 months. But if a trainee is really good on the farm, a farmer can decide to make ordinary work permit for this trainee.
I conducted interview with a number of students, most of them have a good English skills. And some students were very motivated to go, but they need to improve their English skills. So, they have to learn more before they can participate in the internship program.
As for the requirements for the participants of the program, the age should be between 20 to 30 yo. Student should have enough knowledge of English to communicate on the farm. They should be motivated and have practical experience from the field they apply.”
